Over the past few weeks, I've started a rundown of the three greatest players from each team in each of the six BCS conferences, based primarily on the players' accomplishments in college.

CINCINNATI BEARCATS
1. Reggie Taylor (RB): Three-time AP Honorable mention All-American is UC's all-time leading rusher with over 4,200 yards and tops in total yards with over 5,300.
2. DeMarco McClesky (RB): UC's second all-time leading rusher is tops in career rushing touchdowns with 37.
3. Greg Cook (QB): AP,UPI and NEA second-team All-American in 1968. Still holds three of the top five single-game passing records in Bearcat history and his 95-yard touchdown strike against Louisville in '68 remains the longest scoring play in Bearcats history.
CONNECTICUT HUSKIES
1. Dan Orlovsky (QB): Owns seven school passing records and helped guid the Huskies to their first bowl game, a 39-10 win over Toledo in the 2004 Motor City Bowl.
2. Vinny Clements (RB): Former Husky is in the top 10 in school history in eight categories, including total offense, all-purpose yards and yards per game.
3. Walt Trojanowski (HB): UCONN legend is seventh in overall touchdowns, fourth in rushing touchdowns and 11th in total points.
LOUISVILLE CARDINALS
1. Chris Redman (QB): 1999 Johnny Unitas Award winner finished his career as the NCAA Division I leader in completions and attempts. First QB in 1-A history to complete more than 1,000 passes in a career.
2. Elvis Dumervil (DE): First-team All-American and Big East player of the year in 2005, when he also won the Nagurski and Hendricks awards. Holds NCAA records for sacks in a game (6), season (20.5), and forced fumbles.
3. Tom Jackson (LB): 1972 Walter Camp first-team All-American and AP second-team All-American is second in the Cardinals' record books for tackles in a game with 30.
PITTSBURGH PANTHERS
1. Tony Dorsett (RB): Led the Panthers to their last National title in 1976 and captured the Heisman Trophy, as well as the Maxwell and Walter Camp awards. Four-time All-American held the career rushing mark until Ricky Williams broke it in 1998.
2. Hugh Green (DE): Three-time All-American won the Walter Camp, Maxwell, and Lombardi awards in 1980 and finished runner-up to South Carolina RB George Rodgers in the Heisman race. College Football Hall of Fame inductee in 1996.
3. Mike Ditka (TE): First-team All-American as a senior in 1960, and led the Panthers in receiving all thereof his seasons. College Football Hall of Fame inductee in 1986.
RUTGERS SCARLET KNIGHTS
1. Alex Kroll (C): Led Scarlet Knights to first undefeated season in 1961 on his way to making all seven All-American teams, including a first-team AP All-American selection.
2. Marco Battaglia (QB): Consensus first-team All-American in 1995, earning first-team honors from four different publications. Holds school records for receptions and 100-plus-yard receiving games, and his 2,221 receiving yards is second all time for the Scarlet Knights.
3. Paul Robeson (E): Two-time All-American (1916 and 1917) was the first African-American to play at Rutgers and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
SOUTH FLORIDA BULLS
1. Marquel Blackwell (QB): One of the early stars of a program that's only been playing football since 1997, Blackwell owns every career passing mark in USF history and held most rushing records for a QB until being passed by current signal caller Matt Grothe.
2. Mike Jenkins (DB): In 2007 became the school's first NCAA Division I All-American and the first first-round draft pick from USF when he was taken 25th by Dallas in the 2008 draft.
3. Kawika Mitchell (LB): Began his career at Georgia before transferring to USF, where he is near the top in many of the team's defensive categories, including the all-time tackle list, where he holds the record with 367.
SYRACUSE ORANGE
1. Ernie Davis (RB): A two-time All American was the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy (1961) and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Helped the Orange win the 1959 national championship, the program's first and only.
2. Donovan McNabb (QB): Named the Big East's offensive player of the decade for the 1990s and is a three-time conference offensive player of the year. Holds five Big East records and three school passing records.
3. Don McPherson (QB): Maxwell Award winner finished second in the Heisman voting in 1987 and held most Syracuse passing records until the arrival of Donovan McNabb. A member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
WEST VIRGINIA MOUNTAINEERS
1. Marc Bulger (QB): Most prolific passer in Mountaineer history, Bulger holds 25 passing records -- including career passing yards, completions and touchdowns.
2. Ira Rodgers (FB): Consensus All-American, the first in WVU history in 1919. First Mountaineer to rush for 200 yards in a game and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1953.
3. Steve Slaton (RB): Consensus All-American in 2006 was a Doak Walker and Heisman finalist. Wrapped up his career in Morgantown in the top three of every rushing category.
